2024 Subaru BRZ : The Subaru BRZ is a sports car that is lightweight, nimble, and affordable. It is the mechanical twin of the Toyota GR86 and is designed to enhance driving engagement. The BRZ features a standard six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, and a 2+2 seating orientation. These features have helped the BRZ win multiple 10Best awards. The car is powered by Subaru’s 228-hp 2.4-liter flat-four engine, which provides enough power to make it feel quick. The manual transmission is easy to use and the handling is responsive, making this car ideal for weekend driving. In addition, the BRZ is surprisingly practical with plenty of interior storage, rear jump seats, and a decently sized trunk that can hold a week’s worth of groceries. The driver-centric interior features modern technology that enhances the driving experience. While it may not be luxurious, it is comfortable for daily use.
What’s New in 2024?
For the 2024 BRZ lineup, Subaru has introduced the tS model. This model includes upgrades that many BRZ enthusiasts would typically add after purchasing the car, such as 18-inch wheels, larger rotors, upgraded pads, and Hitachi suspension dampers. The tS also features unique interior and exterior details. However, the engine remains unchanged. The Subaru BRZ now includes Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite as standard on models equipped with the manual transmission.
Engine & Performance
The BRZ has a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four engine that produces 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Our test car weighed 2843 pounds, slightly more than the previous BRZ but still relatively lightweight compared to modern sports cars. Our driving experience showed that the car provides ample steering feedback, maintains composure while cornering, and has the ability to swing the tail out. The ride quality is firm, but it adds to the car’s playfulness. All models come with a limited-slip rear differential, with the Premium model featuring 17-inch wheels and the higher-performance Limited model sporting 18-inch wheels.
Fuel Economy
BRZ with automatic transmission is the most fuel-efficient, achieving 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The six-speed manual models have slightly lower estimates, with 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. During our extensive testing regimen, a manual-transmission BRZ achieved 32 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, while an automatic model delivered an impressive 37 mpg.
Interior & Comfort
The BRZ has a driver-centric design and 2+2 seating configuration. The cabin has a sporty aesthetic with modern technology. The 7.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster is facing the driver, making the tachometer the main attraction. The circular readout even switches to a linear graph in the Track drive mode. The front seats are heavily bolstered to keep passengers secure during hard cornering. They are dressed up with red accents to promote the coupe’s racy intentions. The coupe’s practical nature is evident in its sizable cargo area that can hold four tires (for track days, of course) with the rear seats folded.
Infotainment
The BRZ has an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard that serves as the hub for its infotainment system. The display includes physical knobs for volume and tuning functions, as well as several hard buttons, making it easy to use. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and access to SiriusXM satellite radio.
