2024 Lotus Eletre Review : The Eletre is the company’s first SUV and a completely new addition to the Lotus range. Lotus says it will offer the Eletre in Base, S and R configurations, with a base price of under $85,000. To maximize range, we’d stick with either the Base or S trim, both of which come with a less powerful – but still quite powerful – 603bhp electric powertrain and an estimated range of around 315 miles per charge.

Overview
Lotus, the British company best known for making low-volume, lightweight, high-performance sports cars, is departing from this long-standing marketing strategy with a new model that’s completely unlike any Lotus that’s come before it. The new Eletre is a high-performance electric SUV built in China and due to go on sale in the US sometime in 2023. Although it is considerably heavier than any other Lotus model due to its large battery pack, the Eletre still delivers strong acceleration thanks to its electric motors, which produce at least 603 horsepower. Lotus is aiming to compete with other electric SUV models, including the Audi e-tron and BMW iX, but the Eletre bears more than a passing resemblance to the stunning Lamborghini Urus.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The 2024 Lotus Eletre‘s 603 horsepower base powertrain features a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. Our test drive indicates that this allows the Eletre to reach 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. While quick and comfortable, our initial review notes that it is not as agile as Lotus’s sports cars. On the other hand, the top-spec R model boasts an impressive 905 horsepower, estimated to accelerate to 60 mph in only 2.7 seconds. The aforementioned model displays a notably more theatrical driving experience and, when we applied pressure to the throttle, we observed disconcerting jolts and twitches. We plan to conduct further driving tests on our local terrain and update this article with additional impressions and examination outcomes.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
A 109.0-kWh battery pack should offer roughly 315 miles of driving range for the base and S trims. The high-performance Eletre R, on the other hand, won’t be as impressive, with an estimated range of only 260 miles per charge. Once we have an opportunity to test an Eletre, we’ll conduct our real-world 75-mph highway fuel economy and driving range test to determine its capabilities.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
Fuel economy estimates for the Eletre have not been released by the EPA, and we have yet to test this electric SUV. Once examinations have been conducted, we will test it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and report the results in an update. For further details on the Eletre’s fuel economy, please visit the EPA’s website.
Interior & Comfort
The 2024 Lotus Eletre will be available as a four-seater with two rear individual bucket seats or a five-seater with a three-place rear bench. The cabin boasts unique materials including microfiber, stitched leather, wool-blend fabric, and milled bronze accents. All in all, it provides an unexpected, luxurious feel inside, especially considering Lotus’s usual minimalist and lightweight interiors. The comfortable sport seats make long-distance driving a pleasure, while the switchgear is finished in aluminium with intricate knurled details worthy of a Bentley.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A substantial 15.1-inch touchscreen commands the dashboard and will operate a variation of the parent firm Geely’s ECARX multimedia system, which is also employed in the Smart #1 SUV that is not marketed in America. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come as standard; a heads-up display is accessible, as is an improved audio setup with 23 speakers and 1500 watts.
Safety and Driver-Assistance
Lotus claims that the 2024 Lotus Eletre can drive in a semi-autonomous mode with several LIDAR sensors mounted on the roof and front wheel arches. The sensors rise out of the bodywork and retract when not in use. However, the company hasn’t yet specified which driver-assistance features will be standard and which will be optional. For further details on Eletre’s crash-test outcomes, check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.
Critical safety features are expected to incorporate standardized automated
emergency braking with pedestrian detection, standard
lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, as well as adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering option that may be available.
