The 2024 Jeep Wrangler, For those who enjoy spending time outdoors, or aspire to, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is an SUV that can take you anywhere you want to go. Despite its military origins, Jeep now offers a range of creature comforts, with higher-end trims even bordering on luxurious. However, it’s important to note that the Wrangler’s focus remains on off-road capability rather than providing a smooth ride or massage seats. The vehicle still retains its truck-like characteristics, which are reflected in its handling. The ride can be uncomfortable on uneven roads, and the steering requires frequent adjustments to maintain a straight course. While the Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner offer comparable capabilities, they are generally considered to be more refined options. Jeep, on the other hand, provides a wider range of powertrain options than its competitors, including a plug-in hybrid variant and a 470-hp V-8 engine that is only available on the Rubicon 392 model.
What’s New for 2024?
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler receives a minor visual and technological update. It features an updated grille and 10 new wheel designs. The interior now includes a standard 12.3-inch infotainment display, which replaces the smaller 5.0- and 7.0-inch screens from the previous year’s model. The new display also includes Jeep’s latest infotainment software, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The onboard navigation system has mapping for over 2000 trails, with the option to download more. Jeep has integrated a more robust active noise-cancellation feature to reduce cabin noise during phone calls. The plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain is now available on Sport and Rubicon X trims. Hybrid models also have a 3.6-kilowatt auxiliary battery to power accessories.

Engine & Performance
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler offers a choice of five powertrains. The base engine is a 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6, which can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. An optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available, which works with an electric motor to provide extra low-end power. However, this powertrain is only available with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The Wrangler is available with a standard V-6, optional four-cylinder hybrid, 3.6-liter V-6 with hybrid assist, 375-hp plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain, or a 6.4-liter V-8. All Wranglers come with part-time four-wheel drive as standard, which is controlled by a lever on the center console. During our testing, we found that the two-door Wrangler Sport with the V-6 and six-speed manual transmission was able to reach 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. Similarly, the four-door Sahara model with automatic transmission was able to achieve the same speed in 6.8 seconds. The four-door Sahara with the four-cylinder hybrid powertrain was slightly quicker, taking only 6.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. In our testing, the Rubicon model and the High Tide model, which both have heavier-duty off-roading equipment, were not as quick as the other models. Our test track performance shows that the Wrangler JL has improved significantly compared to the previous model, but it is only keeping up with its competitors in some areas. While its handling has improved, it still feels truck-like compared to the more refined SUVs and pickups available today. The ride in the four-door is sufficiently smooth over rough surfaces, but braking distances varied between our two test vehicles.
Interior & Comforts
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler, Although not the most spacious or accommodating SUV available, the Wrangler seamlessly blends vintage and modern Jeep character. Its commanding view of the road or trail makes for easy maneuverability. However, the view to the rear is obscured by thick roof pillars, roll bars, and various grab handles. If a better view is needed, simply pop the top and remove the doors. The driver and front-seat passenger sit close to the upright windshield, facing a narrow, squared-off dashboard with round air vents and chunky switchgear for the climate-control system, power windows (if equipped), and infotainment. The Wrangler provides sufficient space for groceries and gear, but note that its rear seats do not fold flush with the floor. Choosing the classic two-door Wrangler over the larger Unlimited four-door model comes with a significant cargo-hauling trade-off. If you’re adventuring with friends, you’ll need to pack light as only two carry-on cases can fit behind the two-door’s back seat, compared to 10 for the four-door.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler, While the Wrangler can be purchased without certain basic features, such as air conditioning and power windows, all models include a comprehensive infotainment package. The interface, known as Uconnect 5, is user-friendly, responsive, and can be viewed on a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and function wirelessly. The vehicle is equipped with onboard navigation featuring over 2000 mapped trails. Additionally, it has an active noise-cancellation feature to reduce cabin noise during phone calls while driving.
