Review 2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600: Luxury Redefined

Review 2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 :If you win the game of capitalism, an ultra-luxurious SUV like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 might just appear on your new car shopping list in 2024, instead of models that are merely luxurious, like the Benz-branded GLS on which the Maybach is based. The difference between the two can be summed up in one word: opulence. Every inch of the GLS600’s interior has been optimised for comfort and richness. The GLS’s third row has been ditched in favour of a four-seat layout with miles of legroom for rear passengers. This is a chauffeur-driven SUV, because you’ll probably be far too busy running your empire to be distracted by driving. The GLS600 is also priced for exclusivity, so you’re unlikely to experience anything as clumsy as pulling up behind another car at the valet, unless of course you’ve bought a matching set. After all, if you can afford one GLS600, a second probably won’t be too much of a strain on your budget.

The most upmarket version of the GLS-Class gets a few styling tweaks for 2024 that add to its hype-beast appeal. The grille has been tweaked slightly and the front air intakes on the bumper now feature a Maybach logo motif. A new 23-inch wheel design is available and new puddle lights project Maybach logos onto the ground to beckon passengers into the cabin when the doors are opened. Updated quilted leather upholstery covers the SUV’s four sumptuous bucket seats and is available in two new two-tone colour schemes: Crystal White / Silver Grey Pearl or Mahogany Brown / Macchiato Beige.

If you’re in the market for a high-priced luxury SUV, you’re unlikely to listen to people like us when it comes to deciding which options to order. After all, Mercedes-Maybach makes most things standard, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, nappa leather upholstery and handsome interior and exterior trim. However, we’d advise you to skip the Night Series trim and instead browse through the many personalization options to make the GLS600 your own.

GLS600 Engine and Performance

The GLS600’s twin-turbocharged V8 makes 550 horsepower and, according to Mercedes-Maybach, can propel the large luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The engine is backed up by a 48-volt hybrid system, which provides a little extra boost from the word go. If that’s not fast enough for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, which offers a 603bhp version of this powertrain and leapt to 60mph in just 3.6 seconds on our test track. During our initial test drive, we were impressed by both its silky-smooth ride and confident handling. Air suspension is standard and there’s a Maybach mode that virtually erases bumps in the road.

2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 Fuel Economy

The GLS600‘s fuel economy figures are 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. These aren’t particularly efficient estimates, but we’re sure the big spenders who will be cross-shopping the GLS600 against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan won’t be too concerned with fuel efficiency. When we get a chance to test the GLS600, we’ll take it on our 75mph motorway fuel economy test route and update this story with the results.

GLS600 Interior

While the regular Benz GLS-class SUV is a three-row affair, the Maybach GLS600 offers just two rows, both with heating and massage functions. The rear seats are the place to be, with plenty of legroom and two electrically adjustable reclining seats – riding in the back is like travelling in the fanciest first-class airline cabins. A three-seater bench is also available, but come on, the executive treatment is what this SUV is all about. Nappa leather covers the dashboard, door panels and seats, while real wood trim with a handsome pinstripe adds a touch of class. A fragrance diffuser helps the occupants create the sensory oasis they deserve after a hard day’s work. Cargo space isn’t as generous as in the regular GLS-Class, as the rear seats are fixed and don’t fold down to accommodate larger items. Mercedes-Maybach says there’s still about 19 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and will offer a handsome set of custom-fit luggage.

Intelligent technologies and well thought-out details are the finest form of comfort: with its generous interior space the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS offers a first-class oasis in which to retreat. The high-quality upholstery of the seat backrests and the typical Mercedes-Maybach diamond stitching set individual accents. The modern steering wheel not only steers the vehicle, it also provides comfortable control of everything from navigation to entertainment. The high-quality trim enhances the overall aesthetic impression
