Polestar 3 Reviews

Polestar 3 Reviews : With a handsome design and the requisite high seating position, the 2025 Polestar 3 joins the flood of electric SUVs hitting the market. Volvo’s offshoot EV brand has so far only produced cars – although the Polestar 2 could be seen as either a tall car or a low-slung SUV. There will be no such confusion with the 3, which will go on sale sometime in the second half of 2024. We have to admit we’re taken with its streamlined roofline, prominent wings and dramatic wheel arches. The SUV’s cabin also looks rich, with a clean design and high-quality materials. Along with a rear-wheel drive model that will join the party later, there’s more than enough power in the base 483bhp four-wheel drive model. For speed freaks, the optional Performance trim bumps it up to 510bhp and adds unique 22-inch wheels, summer tyres and a tuned suspension system. The range is a decent 315 miles on a single charge for the standard model and 279 miles for the Performance, and both can be recharged quickly via a DC fast-charging connection. It’s also equipped with a range of active safety features and Polestar has plans for future enhancements, including Volvo’s Lidar technology, which it claims will enable full self-driving at some point in the future. The company is also planning a second SUV called the Polestar 4, which will be a hatchback version of the 3.

Polestar 3 EV Engine, power and Performance

A single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain will eventually be standard. For now, the Polestar 3’s standard setup includes twin motors providing four-wheel drive. That’s offered in two strengths: the base setup makes 483 horsepower, but the Performance trim gets bumped up to 510 ponies. We had the chance to drive both versions in Europe and are happy to report that both deliver snappy acceleration. Every 3 comes with an adaptive suspension system with active dampers and air springs, but the Performance package includes a sport-tuned version of the suspension. Handling is surprisingly nimble. A torque-vectoring rear differential helps reduce understeer and gives the Polestar 3 a more planted feel in fast cornering. We’ll take the new Polestar 3 to our test track when we get the chance and update this story with test results and more driving impressions.

With its more robust electric motors, Polestar says the Performance model will sprint to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. But having had the chance to drive both models, we think that time is conservative and estimate that the Long Range Dual Motor trim will reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and the Performance trim in just 4.2 seconds.

Polestar 3 range, charging and battery life

All models come with the same 107.0 kWh battery pack, which can be charged at up to 250 kW using a DC fast charge connection. Polestar says this is enough to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes. Once fully charged, the Long Range Dual Motor model is said to be capable of driving up to 315 miles before needing to be recharged; the more powerful Performance model’s estimated range is slightly lower at 279 miles per charge.

Polestar 3 Interior & Cargo

Polestar has equipped its first SUV model with a wealth of comfort and luxury features. All models have a panoramic sunroof with an illuminated Polestar logo. A power tailgate is also standard, as are heated electric front seats, three-zone climate control and an on-board air purifier. The interior design is clean and modern, with high-quality materials that Polestar says are also environmentally friendly and sustainable. The optional Plus package adds niceties such as an electrically adjustable steering wheel with heating and soft-close doors. Cargo space is less generous than in some similarly sized SUVs, and the Polestar 3’s front boot (or frunk) is a disappointing one cubic foot compartment that’s only good for storing the SUV’s portable charging cables.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A large 14.5-inch infotainment display is standard, running Polestar’s latest Google-based infotainment interface. A secondary 9.0-inch display serves as the Polestar 3’s gauge cluster. Overall, the system is fairly intuitive, although the lack of physical buttons will irritate some drivers. We expect to see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and we know that all models will come with in-dash navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and four USB-C charging ports. A 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo is part of the optional Plus package.
