The Pajero is officially back. Mitsubishi revealed an all-new, seven-seat, ladder-frame Pajero on 2 September 2026 and named the Middle East among its markets "from fiscal 2027". Mitsubishi's fiscal year starts in April, so the earliest realistic 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero UAE arrival is the second quarter of 2027. No UAE price or exact date has been announced yet.
Regional sites call it the 2027 Pajero, and we use that name here. This guide sets out what Mitsubishi has confirmed, what is still unknown for the UAE, how it compares with the Prado and other rivals on sale now, and what a used Pajero costs today.
What Is the New Mitsubishi Pajero?
For decades the Pajero was a familiar sight in the UAE. It worked as a family 4x4, a desert car and a fleet workhorse. After a gap of about five years, Mitsubishi has brought the name back on an all-new body-on-frame SUV. According to Mitsubishi's official release, the new ladder frame uses more high-tensile steel for extra rigidity.
It is a serious off-roader, not a crossover with a famous badge. It has three rows and seven seats as standard. Mitsubishi has also moved the cabin upmarket, with a 12-speaker "Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate" system and connected services. Zigwheels UAE reports a "Digital Multi Meter" that shows pitch, roll and tyre angle while you drive off-road.
Confirmed Specs
Mitsubishi has confirmed one engine so far. It is a 2.4-litre clean diesel with a single variable-geometry turbo, producing 480 Nm of torque (470 Nm on some versions). It drives through a newly developed eight-speed automatic with a sport mode. Cars24 UAE reports 201 bhp, but the torque figure is the one Mitsubishi highlights.
| Dimension (Mitsubishi) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Length / width / height | 4,920 / 1,925 / 1,910 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,870 mm |
| Ground clearance | 230 mm |
| Approach / departure / breakover | 30.4° / 25.8° / 22.6° |
The height and clearance figures are quoted with 20-inch tyres. Mitsubishi has not confirmed a petrol or plug-in hybrid version, towing capacity, fuel economy or kerb weight. We have not quoted any of those.
Off-Road Hardware and Technology
The four-wheel-drive system is Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD-II. It has four positions: 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLc. On top of that are seven drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock. Sand mode will matter most to UAE owners heading for Liwa or Al Faya. Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) manages traction between the wheels.
For driving in tight spots, Mitsubishi fits a 3D Multi Around Monitor with a front under-floor view, which lets you see what is under the nose on rocky wadi tracks. MI-PILOT highway assistance helps on long motorway runs, such as Dubai to Abu Dhabi. Mitsubishi Connect adds app-based connected services. Front and rear tracks are both 1,630 mm. That wide, even stance helps stability on soft sand. There are eight airbags, including a centre airbag between the front seats.
2027 Mitsubishi Pajero UAE Launch Timing
Mitsubishi's plan is clear about the order of markets, though not the dates. Thailand gets the car first, in fiscal 2026, followed by Japan and Australia. Around 100 markets follow "from fiscal 2027 onward", including the Middle East. Cars24 UAE suggests a GCC launch around mid-2027, but that is Cars24's own estimate, not Mitsubishi's.
Mitsubishi's long-time UAE distributor is Al Habtoor Motors. Al Habtoor has not yet announced a launch date, trims or pre-orders. Until it does, treat any exact date as a guess. If you are serious about buying one, ask your nearest Al Habtoor Mitsubishi showroom to log your interest. Ask which engine the GCC car will use before you pay any deposit.
Expected UAE Price
No UAE price has been announced for the new Pajero. Some UAE sites publish "estimated" prices, but none come from Mitsubishi, so we do not repeat them. The fairest guide is what rival seven-seat ladder-frame SUVs cost today (see the table below). The previous Pajero is no longer sold new, so there is no current list price to compare with.
GCC Specs and UAE Conditions
The engine is the big unknown for the UAE. Mitsubishi has only announced a diesel. Most private SUVs in the UAE run on petrol, and an earlier Cars24 report expected petrol for this market. Wait for Al Habtoor's GCC specification before you decide. A GCC-spec car also brings the local warranty and climate tuning. Our GCC vs American specs guide explains why that matters.
Mitsubishi has not published hot-climate test data, cooling upgrades or GCC-specific AC details. Treat any "built for Gulf heat" claims as unconfirmed until the regional launch. The 230 mm clearance and dedicated Sand mode are hardware facts, though, and they suit dune driving.
Rivals Already on Sale in the UAE
| Model | UAE new price (CarSwitch) | Engine (CarSwitch) |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Prado | AED 199,900 to 264,900 | 2.4T petrol, 267 bhp, 430 Nm |
| Ford Everest | AED 160,545 to 202,545 | 2.3T petrol, 296 bhp, 420 Nm |
| Toyota Fortuner | AED 128,900 to 173,900 | 2.7 four-cyl. / 4.0 V6 |
The Toyota Prado is the Pajero's natural target. It is a seven-seat ladder-frame 4x4 with strong resale values. The Ford Everest is cheaper and more powerful. The Toyota Fortuner is the budget choice. On paper the Pajero's diesel has more torque (480 Nm) than the Prado's or Everest's petrol engines, but less power if the reported 201 bhp is right. Its UAE price will decide whether it fights the Prado head-on or undercuts it.
Buy Now or Wait?
Wait if you love the Pajero name, want the newest seven-seat 4x4 with modern safety, and can hold on until at least mid-2027. Buy now if you need a car before then. The Prado, Everest and Fortuner are available today with known prices and warranties.
Used Pajeros are some of the cheapest serious off-roaders in the UAE. In early October 2026, CarsClub listings included a 2022 Pajero at AED 77,000, 2020 cars at AED 58,999 to 74,990, a 2018 example at AED 44,999 and a 2016 car at AED 31,998. Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Mitsubishi Pajero coming back to the UAE?
Yes, in principle. Mitsubishi revealed the all-new Pajero on 2 September 2026 and lists the Middle East among roughly 100 markets that will get it from fiscal 2027 onward. Al Habtoor Motors, Mitsubishi's UAE distributor, has not yet confirmed a launch date, trims or prices for the UAE.
When will the new Pajero launch in the UAE?
No date has been announced. Mitsubishi's fiscal 2027 starts in April 2027, so the second quarter of 2027 is the earliest realistic window. Cars24 UAE suggests mid-2027, but that is an estimate. Thailand, Japan and Australia get the Pajero first.
What is the price of the new Pajero in the UAE?
Mitsubishi has not announced UAE pricing, and published "estimates" do not come from the brand. For context, CarSwitch lists rivals at AED 199,900 to 264,900 for the Toyota Prado, AED 160,545 to 202,545 for the Ford Everest and AED 128,900 to 173,900 for the Toyota Fortuner.
What engine does the new Pajero have?
Mitsubishi has confirmed a 2.4-litre clean diesel with a variable-geometry turbo and 480 Nm, paired with a new eight-speed automatic. Cars24 UAE reports 201 bhp. A petrol engine for the UAE has not been confirmed. Check Al Habtoor's GCC specification when it is published.
Is the new Pajero better than the Toyota Prado?
It is too early to say. The Pajero offers 480 Nm of diesel torque, 230 mm of ground clearance, Super Select 4WD-II, seven drive modes and seven seats. The Prado is on sale now from AED 199,900 with a 2.4-litre turbo petrol. UAE pricing and engine choice will decide it.
Should I buy a used Pajero or wait for the new one?
If you need a capable 4x4 now, a used Pajero is good value. CarsClub listings in October 2026 ran from about AED 32,000 for a 2016 car to AED 77,000 for a 2022 model. Wait if you want modern safety, more space and the latest technology.
Conclusion
The new Pajero is a proper ladder-frame, seven-seat 4x4 with serious off-road hardware. Mitsubishi has named the Middle East as a market from fiscal 2027. Until Al Habtoor Motors confirms the engine, price and date, weigh it against the Prado, Everest and Fortuner, all on sale today.
