2024 Toyota Prado 250 First Edition Review | All 2024 Toyota Prado 250 Series models will come with a basic suite of passive and active safety features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assistant, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Emergency Braking, plus parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, nine airbags and trailer sway control.
In addition, the fleet-focused GX kicks off the range with a set of 18-inch wheels and darkened front and rear bumpers, sills and wheel arch surrounds.
Inside, the five-seat model features a 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless smartphone projection, integrated sat-nav and DAB+ digital radio, a 7.0-inch colour driver’s display and a 10-speaker sound system. In keeping with the rugged nature of this model, the seats are cloth-covered and manually adjustable, and there are all-weather rubber mats and a 220V socket.
Exterior upgrades for the GXL include roof rails, privacy glass and a powered tailgate, as well as a change in bumper colour from black to silver. Inside, the seats are now upholstered in synthetic leather and are heated, cooled and electrically adjustable.
2024 Toyota Prado, There’s also leather for the steering wheel and gear selector, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, tri-zone climate control, a wireless phone charging pad and two extra USB-C ports. The key difference for families, however, is the inclusion of a third row of seats as standard.

2024 Toyota Prado 250 First Edition Engine
venerable 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. This is the same basic unit as the outgoing 150-series and other models such as the Toyota HiLux Ute, but it feels like a completely different animal. Power and torque are rated at a relatively modest 150kW and 500Nm, but the numbers don’t tell the story of how the Prado feels on the road. The refinement is much, much better than any previous application, with little to no vibration coming through into the cabin. At low revs there’s only a subtle growl, but once you’re on the move the engine fades into the background and shifts effortlessly into high gear.
2024 Toyota Prado 250 First Edition Infotainment
All Prado models have an excellent 12.3 inch infotainment system with a new user interface that’s both clean and relatively easy to use. There are some fiddly icons and you do have to get into menus for certain functions, but for everyday use it’s a massive step up from the systems found in previous Toyotas.
All models have wireless phone projection, and thanks to the separate climate and driver mode functions, you may never need to touch the embedded system. But if you do, it won’t be a hassle.
What’s more, on VX models and up, there’s a full 12.3-inch driver’s display that’s crisp and responsive. It’s also highly configurable, with multiple display options and plenty of scope for personalising the information available. Furthermore, the upgraded JBL stereo on our test car sounded great and had no trouble being heard over the roar of the off-road tyres on our rough test roads. As well as the wireless charging pad, there are plenty of USB-C points at the front and rear, although our cars weren’t fitted with seven seats, so any third-row technology wasn’t on display.
2024 Toyota Prado 250 First Edition Safety
All Land Cruiser Prado models feature nine airbags, plus Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring. Lane Assist works by giving you a visual and audible warning if you stray outside the white lines, but if you do, it gently nudges you back into your lane with a small amount of steering correction.
2024 Toyota Prado 250 First Edition Fuel Efficient
Toyota has yet to announce fuel economy figures for the new 2024 Toyota Prado 250 series, but given the similarities with the outgoing 2.8-litre diesel – and the fact we drove the non-mild hybrid version (we’ll get the MHEV in Australia) – we’d expect Euro-spec combined cycle economy to be roughly comparable to the 150 series at 7.9L/100km.
On the test we averaged 10L/100km, which included a fair amount of off-roading in sticky mud. In normal driving conditions, we’d expect it to be closer to 9L/100km, again an increase on the outgoing model’s official figure.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado fuel tank capacity is 87 litres.
