G-Wagon running costs UAE owners face are dominated by two lines, fuel and tyres, and almost every guide online covers the purchase price instead. The Mercedes G-Class is one of the most in-demand models on CarsClub, with 47 cars live from 2013 to 2026 at a median of AED 735,000. Here is what those 47 cars actually cost to keep on the road.
Fuel is the biggest number, and it is not close
A G-Class is a two-and-a-half-tonne brick with the aerodynamics of a filing cabinet. Assume 18 litres per 100 km in mixed Dubai driving for a V8. That is 5.6 km/L, and it is a realistic rather than pessimistic figure once the air conditioning is fighting a summer afternoon.
At the September 2026 UAE pump prices of AED 3.80 a litre for Super 98 and AED 3.69 for Special 95, that works out as:

The takeaway is that annual mileage, not model year, is what decides whether this car is affordable. A G-Class driven 25,000 km a year costs AED 17,100 in fuel alone, more than the entire annual running cost of a mid-size family saloon. Tyres are the second line and the one people forget. A G-Class runs large-diameter, heavy-load-rated tyres, and UAE heat ages rubber faster than mileage does, so plan on replacement every three to four years regardless of tread depth. Get a written quote for a set in the specific size fitted to the car you are considering before you buy, because the difference between an 18-inch and a 22-inch set is substantial.
Salik and parking: the Dubai overhead
These two are published, exact, and usually left out entirely.
Since 1 June 2026, Salik charges carry 5% VAT. A gate crossing now costs AED 6.30 during peak hours (06:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, Monday to Saturday), AED 4.20 during low-peak hours (10:00 to 16:00 and 20:00 to 01:00), nothing at all between 01:00 and 06:00, and a flat AED 4.20 all day Sunday. Activating a new Salik tag costs AED 52.50. Passing a gate without a tag costs AED 100 for the first trip, AED 200 for the second and AED 400 for each one after that.
Dubai's Parkin tariffs also went VAT-inclusive on the same date: AED 6.30 an hour in premium zones at peak, AED 4.20 an hour standard, with lower rates in zones A to D off-peak. Parking is free every night from 22:00 to 08:00 and all day on Sundays and public holidays.
Work it through for a realistic Dubai owner: two gates each way, five days a week, in peak hours is AED 25.20 a day, about AED 546 a month, or AED 6,552 a year. Add paid parking three hours a day in a premium zone and you are past AED 11,000 a year before a single litre of fuel. Note the trap: Salik peak hours start at 06:00, Parkin peak hours start at 08:00. Several aggregator sites conflate the two.
Servicing, intervals and the Gargash condition
Mercedes-Benz in the UAE specifies service intervals of every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first, and the Gargash extended warranty terms make coverage conditional on servicing at Gargash Mercedes-Benz Service Centres at those intervals, with body repairs at Mercedes-Benz authorised body and paint centres.
That condition is the real cost driver, not the sticker price of an oil change. An independent specialist will usually undercut the dealer on a service, but if the car still carries factory or extended cover, going independent can cost you the warranty on a car where a single major repair dwarfs several years of servicing. The decision point is simple: while the car is under cover, service at the dealer; once cover has expired, shop around. Do not do it the other way round.
The warranty exclusion that catches G-Class owners out
Gargash's extended warranty adds 24 months after the initial three years up to 105,000 km, or 24 months after five years up to 150,000 km. Read the exclusions before you rely on it. The published list excludes natural wear and tear, non-genuine parts or unapproved fluids, modifications, accident repairs carried out at unauthorised centres, interior trim, weather strips, entertainment systems, and battery failure.
Battery failure being excluded matters more in the UAE than almost anywhere else. Under-bonnet temperatures here shorten battery life considerably, and a modern G-Class with a large electrical load is not a car where you want a battery surprise. Budget for a replacement every two to three years and do not expect the warranty to carry it. Why depreciation is the one cost that works in your favour
Depreciation is normally the largest single cost of luxury car ownership, and the G-Class is the rare exception.
